The Nigerian Law School has confirmed the death of a 23-year-old student, Faith Alayande, who reportedly fell from the rooftop of a hostel at the institution’s Lagos Campus while participating in an externship programme.

The institution confirmed the incident in a statement signed by its Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, Aderonke O. Osho.

According to the statement, Alayande was a student of the Nigerian Law School’s Enugu Campus but was temporarily accommodated at the Lagos Campus hostel for the duration of her externship.

The incident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026. The Law School said preliminary information indicated that Alayande fell from the rooftop of the hostel and sadly died as a result of the incident.

The Lagos State Police Command had earlier confirmed the incident, stating that the hostel matron reported the case after the student was found unresponsive on the premises. Police officers visited the scene and evacuated her body to a morgue, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death are ongoing.

Reports indicate that a hostel mate and a relative had reportedly found a note believed to have been written by Alayande and began searching for her. She was later found unresponsive following the fall.

The Nigerian Law School said it was working with the relevant authorities and Alayande’s family to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The institution expressed deep sadness over her death and extended its condolences to her family, colleagues and everyone affected by the tragedy.

The Law School also appealed to members of the public and the media to respect the family’s privacy and allow them to grieve peacefully.

“Management of the Nigerian Law School respectfully appeals to everyone to honour the family’s wishes and refrain from any actions that may further compound their grief at this difficult moment,” the statement added.
