In a strategic push to deepen its footprint within Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Alternative Bank has officially inaugurated a modern branch in the Gwarinpa district of Abuja. The expansion underscores the lender’s drive to champion green energy solutions alongside its non-interest financial offerings.
The opening ceremony on Wednesday drew a distinguished gathering of public sector executives, royal figures, and institutional partners.
Speaking at the event, Garba Mohammed, the bank’s Executive Director supervising the North-Central, South-East, and South-South territories, highlighted that the new office will streamline customer access to specialized funding options—chief among them being ‘Alt Power.’ This targeted solution covers the upfront expenses of domestic and commercial renewable energy installations, enabling clients to reimburse the investment over manageable installments.
Mohammed explained that Alt Power embodies the institution’s collaborative ethos, designed to democratize capital while addressing everyday infrastructural hurdles.
The launch also provided a platform for the Federal Ministry of Environment to advocate for stronger banking support toward ecological sustainability. Representing Environment Minister Balarabe Lawal, the ministry’s Deputy Director of Policy and Planning observed that the government cannot resolve ecological deficits alone. He urged financial institutions to channel resources into waste valorization, climate-smart enterprise, and renewable infrastructure.
Offering royal counsel, the Emir of Nasarawa, HRH Ibrahim Usman Jibril, commended the bank’s progress but encouraged leadership to extend physical services beyond bustling metropolises. He stressed that bringing physical branches to semi-urban and rural areas remains vital for onboarding unbanked populations and fostering a disciplined savings culture.
Beyond advancing green power, the newly commissioned Gwarinpa branch will act as a pivotal conduit for the ethical lender’s broader portfolio, including commercial, agricultural, and enterprise partnerships.
