In a major leap forward for target sports administration, the Nigeria Shooting Sport Federation (NSSF) officially rolled out its National Integrated Shooting Sport Portal during an elite precision shooting tournament organized by the Army War College Nigeria in Abuja.
The digital platform was introduced on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, alongside the Army War College Nigeria Course 10 Shooting Competition, staged at the 1212 Polo Turf Club Shooting Range situated in Gwarimpa, Abuja.
Speaking on behalf of NSSF President Commodore Mohammed Sagir Shettima, the federation’s Second Vice President, Abubakar Aliyu, hailed the online system as a transformative breakthrough intended to modernize the discipline and expand grassroots and professional involvement throughout the country. He invited clubs, corporate bodies, marksmanship enthusiasts, and individual competitors to formally enroll through the portal and connect with the broader sporting fraternity, noting that shooting represents an internationally respected competitive sport that demands structured local development.
Highlighting the portal’s architectural features, Abdultalib Musa, Chief Executive Officer of technical partner Obetek Technologies Limited, explained that the hub functions as a unified gateway for athlete enrollment, club affiliations, official accreditations, skill enhancement, and tournament administration according to international benchmarks. NSSF ICT specialist Jovita Nwanaforo steered the technical demonstration, which was broadcast live to international viewers.
The unveiling complemented the Army War College Nigeria Course 10 Pistol and Rifle Precision Shooting Competition, drawing participants from across the Nigerian Armed Forces, paramilitary agencies, civilian affiliates, press outlets, and allied military delegates from South Africa alongside other African nations.
Prominent dignitaries taking part included the Commandant of the National Defence College, Rear Admiral A. Ahmed, and his counterpart at the Army War College Nigeria, Major General UM Alkali, both of whom engaged in ceremonial exhibition shoots utilizing rifles and handguns.
Throughout the contest, opposing squads challenged the Army War College lineup across various firing positions—including prone, kneeling, standing, and specialized sniping challenges—firing .22 caliber rifles and handguns at designated marks while tackling tactical obstacles.
Prior to the action, Major General Alkali guided attendees in observing a minute of silent contemplation for the victims of the tragic Nigerian Air Force plane crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State. The gesture aligned with the three-day period of national mourning and the flying of flags at half-mast declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while investigations into the incident proceed.
According to the NSSF, the newly implemented online infrastructure is set to revolutionize operational coordination, governance, and accessibility for marksmen and affiliated clubs nationwide.
