In a concerted effort to enhance the quality of healthcare delivery and strengthen relations between healthcare providers and the public, the Hospitals Management Board (HMB) has commemorated this year’s Customer Service Week with a renewed commitment to patient-centered service, highlighted by the official launch of a comprehensive Patient Feedback Form.
The annual celebration, observed globally to recognize the importance of customer service and the professionals who deliver it daily, served as a pivotal platform for the management board to evaluate its operational standards. Addressing healthcare workers, hospital administrators, and support staff during the commemorative event, the Director-General of the board charged personnel across all secondary healthcare facilities to embrace empathy and consistently go the extra mile in their day-to-day interactions with patients.
Emphasizing that healthcare delivery extends far beyond clinical diagnoses and medical prescriptions, the Director-General reminded staff that compassionate communication and prompt attention play critical roles in patient recovery. The DG pointed out that visitors entering hospital doors are often burdened with emotional distress, pain, and uncertainty, making courteous, supportive, and dignified treatment an indispensable part of holistic healing. Personnel were urged to see their duties not merely as civil routine, but as a noble humanitarian calling that demands patience and high professional ethics.
A major highlight of the commemoration was the official unveiling of the Patient Feedback Form, a strategic initiative designed to institutionalize accountability, transparency, and continuous service enhancement across hospitals under the board’s oversight. The feedback mechanism provides patients, guardians, and visitors with an accessible and direct channel to evaluate their hospital experiences, ranging from front-desk reception and waiting times to doctor-patient interactions, nursing care, pharmacy services, and general facility cleanliness.
According to the board, the newly introduced tool is aimed at bridging the gap between facility management and service users. By gathering authentic, real-time insights from patients, the HMB intends to identify systemic bottlenecks, address lapses promptly, and reward outstanding departments and staff who distinguish themselves in service delivery. Management assured that the submissions would be analyzed objectively to guide ongoing administrative reforms and policy decisions.
Healthcare facilities often face complex challenges, including high patient influx and resource constraints. However, as noted during the event, maintaining a strong culture of service excellence remains achievable when healthcare providers prioritize active listening and mutual respect. The initiative also seeks to dismantle perceptions of bureaucratic indifference in public health institutions, rebuilding public trust and encouraging communities to utilize public healthcare services with confidence.
The celebration wrapped up with interactive sessions and workshops aimed at sensitizing frontline workers to conflict resolution, effective communication, and stress management in high-pressure clinical environments. Hospital administrators pledged their full cooperation in operationalizing the feedback forms, assuring the leadership that physical boxes and digital channels would be monitored diligently.
With the successful rollout of the feedback initiative, the Hospitals Management Board has reiterated its long-term vision of transforming public healthcare centers into warm, responsive, and patient-focused environments, setting a progressive benchmark for service delivery across the sector.
