A Divisional Police Officer overseeing the Abuloma division in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has been stripped of his role in the wake of viral clips showing alleged members of the Vikings confraternity commemorating their remodeling of a local police facility.
The Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, Blessing Agabe, verified the disciplinary action during a phone briefing, noting that an official notice had been published addressing the incident.
State police authorities initiated an inquiry and took administrative steps only after the recorded ceremony began making rounds across digital platforms.
According to an official police release, command leadership took note of the widely shared clips and online discussions claiming that an alleged cult group had upgraded the Abuloma police post and converged on the site to mark the project’s completion.
As a direct result, both the head of the Abuloma division and the officer in charge of the specific station were served queries and removed from active assignment while an inquiry proceeds. The state’s Commissioner of Police also sanctioned a comprehensive probe to determine the facts and clarify how the situation unfolded.
The circulating media, which appeared online on Thursday, featured individuals identified with De Norsemen Kclub International—popularly recognized as the Supreme Vikings Confraternity—mingling with law enforcement personnel, touring the refurbished outpost, and posing for commemorative images alongside officers.
This incident reflects ongoing concerns regarding questionable entanglements between Nigerian law enforcement personnel and underground or cult networks, echoing prior revelations by a Lagos police chief who acknowledged illicit ties between officers and local gang members.
