Dear Residents of the Federal Capital Territory,
On this auspicious occasion of our nation’s 66th Independence Day Anniversary, I extend my warmest greetings and heartfelt congratulations to every resident across the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory. Today marks another significant milestone in Nigeria’s enduring journey toward peace, unity, and shared prosperity.
As we commemorate this historic day, we are called to reflect with deep gratitude on the sacrifices of our founding fathers and the countless patriots who laboured selflessly to secure our nation’s freedom. Their enduring vision was of a united, egalitarian, and self-sufficient Nigeria where every citizen, regardless of ethnic background or religious persuasion, could thrive. Decades later, that vision remains our compass, and nowhere is that unifying spirit more tangibly experienced than right here in Abuja, the collective heartbeat of our beloved country.
The Federal Capital Territory was established to be an enduring beacon of national unity—a home where all Nigerians can live, work, and realize their potentials without distinction. Over the past few years, our administration has remained resolute in translating this founding vision into a vibrant reality. Guided by the overarching mandate of the Renewed Hope Agenda, we have pursued an aggressive, deliberate program of infrastructural transformation and urban renewal across both the city center and our satellite communities.
We recognize that an enabling environment is fundamental to economic growth and human development. To this end, we have focused extensively on the completion of critical road networks, expanding public utilities, upgrading primary health centers, and revitalizing basic education facilities across the territory. We are ensuring that the benefits of governance are not confined to the urban core alone, but are felt tangibly by the ordinary citizen living in the rural outposts of Abaji, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali.
However, physical infrastructure alone cannot build a resilient capital. Security and public order remain the bedrock upon which our collective development rests. Our administration continues to work in close synergy with security agencies to ensure that Abuja remains safe, secure, and hospitable for residents, businesses, and diplomatic missions alike. We appreciate your vigilance, your cooperation, and your continued trust in our security architecture.
Even as we celebrate our progress, we acknowledge that national transformation requires shared sacrifice and civic responsibility. I urge all residents to treat public infrastructure as collective property, maintain environmental cleanliness, adhere strictly to urban planning regulations, and foster an atmosphere of peaceful coexistence. Let us reject all forms of criminality, vandalism, and divisiveness that threaten our shared heritage.
The journey of nation-building is a marathon that demands patience, determination, and unyielding faith. Though challenges may arise, our resilience as a people has consistently proven capable of overcoming adversity. Together, we can build a world-class capital city that not only stands proudly among the great metropolises of the world, but also reflects the highest aspirations of our people.
As we mark this special day, let us renew our dedication to the ideals of peace, justice, and solidarity. On behalf of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, I wish all residents a joyful, peaceful, and inspiring Independence Day celebration.
Happy 66th Independence Anniversary to the Federal Capital Territory, and Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
